Many Different Issues and Lengths to Support Veteran’s Day |

This November 11th America will celebrate Veteran’s Day – the day when we give thanks to the men and women who protect our interests both at home and abroad.
Our Fall/Winter 2010 CablePAK provides local cable stations a wide variety of PSAs produced by the American Legion, Army National Guard and the U.S. Air Force. A total of 12 different PSAs from these three organizations covering various topics and in different spot lengths will provide stations with high quality messages to support Vets Day. |
| The Dangers of Tanning |
Melanoma is the most common form of cancer for 25-29 year olds and the second most common form of cancer for 15-29 year olds. Research shows indoor tanning increases a person’s melanoma risk by 75 percent. UV radiation from the sun and tanning beds also has been associated with non-melanoma skin cancer, such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, as well as wrinkles and age spots. The American Academy of Dermatology hasproduced two emotional PSAs entitled “Donna” and “Amanda” featuring the family of Jaime Regen Rea who died of Melanoma. |
| A Simple Fall Can be Disastrous |
According to the National Safety Council, one out of three Americans older than age 65 falls each year.
Nearly half of those falls occur at home, making falls the leading cause of injuries for seniors. In its latest TV PSAs, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons has produced a national, multi-media PSA campaign, titled “Alone.” The campaign warns of these dangers and educates people about what they can do to make their homes safer. |
| Americans Need to Save More |
Government statistics indicate that the savings rate in the United States has plummeted since 1970 to only 1.4 percent – among the lowest in the developed world. Against this trend,
reductions in Social Security, Medicare, pensions and retiree health insurance, plus a longer lifespan, create the perfect storm for financial disaster for many Americans. The American Savings Education Council’s Choose to Save® program has a wide variety of public service messages to encourage Americans to save more. |
| The Graying of America |
Americans are facing one of the most dramatic demographic shifts in history as a projected 71.5 million people will be age 65 or older within the next two decades. In response to the demands this will have on our health care system and society at large, Volunteers of America has produced a humorous new TV PSA campaign about a very serious subject. Featuring Joan Rivers and her daughter Melissa, they talk about the importance of having a dialogue about aging.
