TEACHING CHILDREN WATER SAFETY

"Simple Safety Steps/No Second Chances"

Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death for children between the ages of 1 and 4, with minority children drowning at a higher rate than their Caucasian peers. The lives of countless children can be saved by following these simple water safety steps: teach children to swim, put a fence around all pools and always watch children in and around the water.

Pool Safely is a national public education campaign run by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to prevent children from drowning.

Since child drowning incidents continue to remain high, even in cooler weather, CPSC is encouraging families across the country to discuss water safety and take the Pool Safely Pledge. CPSC is encouraging families across the country to discuss water safety and take the Pool Safely Pledge.

The Pool Safely PSAs remind parents and caregivers that when it comes to pool and spa safety, there are no “do-overs” and it only takes a few simple steps to save a life. Your support of the Pool Safely PSAs plays an integral role in helping families avoid these preventable tragedies.

By visiting www.PoolSafely.gov/Pledge, adults and children alike can pledge to take steps to keep everyone safer around the water. The campaign has :15, :30 and :60 PSA spots in English and Spanish.
